The Louisiana Insurers' Conference (LIC) was created in 1942, and has provided the insurance industry and our policyholders 70 productive years of leadership and service in shaping, developing and strengthening our industry in Louisiana.

 

LIC Goals

  • To promote the interest of our member insurance companies and their policyholders
  • To promote the general welfare and interest of the insurance business
  • To more fully realize the responsibility of the insurance industry to the public
  • By consistent effort, to discharge that responsibility in terms of more effective services to policyholders and beneficiaries
  • By proper means, to represent its membership with respect to legislative proposals which affect insurance companies and their policyholders

Legislative and Regulatory Representation

LIC is an association of industry leaders working in the forefront to address and resolve problems common to our industry.  LIC is:

  • A liaison to the State Department of Insurance;
  • A recognized force in the Louisiana Legislature and before regulatory bodies;
  • A channel for current, informative news affecting our industry.

A Few LIC Successes

  • Secured and retained existing investment tax credits
  • Succeeded in defeating or modifying punitive damage issues and limitations on investments
  • Retained capital & surplus grandfather
  • Deterred increased mandated coverage in health insurance
  • Championed 100% payments to beneficiaries on funeral policies
  • Assisted the Louisiana Department of  Insurance in refining Louisiana Laws to receive and maintain NAIC accreditation
  • Defeated regulation of life/health rates
  • Defeated efforts to give Attorney General oversight of insurance regulation
